Weekly Trojan Wrap Up

Week 7

New York Yankees (6-1) – 228 Points

Top Hitter: Jose Altuve – 33.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Justin Verlander – 24.75 Points

Seattle Mariners (5-2) 336 Points

Top Hitter: Mike Trout – 39 Points

Top Pitcher: Clayton Richard – 38.75 Points

And we have no more undefeated teams in the league as the Mariners dominate the Yankees with a strong week from Mike Trout, Matt Kemp, and Clayton Richards, wo all scored over 36 points.  The offense for the Mariners was not shy this week scoring over 200 points, while the pitching did well with 134.  The Yankees can not say the same as the hitting and pitching both under performed as it may seem the injuries are finally catching up to the Bronx Bombers.  Altuve and Verlander carried the load, but wasn’t even close enough to win this week as the Yanks fall to 6-1.

Miami Marlins (4-3) – 178 Points

Top Hitter: Charlie Blackmon – 27 Points

Top Pitcher: Zach Grienke – 22 Points

Colorado Rockies (6-1) – 239 Points

Top Hitter: Kris Bryant – 30 Points

Top Pitcher: Jake Arrieta – 24.5 Points

I think most people were expecting a 400-399 point game this week with these heavy hitting teams, but we got the exact opposite in a very low scoring game.  The Marlins have been the hottest team in the league, but finally cooled down in week 7 only scoring 178 total and 33 from the pitching staff.  The bright points for the Marlins is the great play of Blackmon and Grienke, who both have been consistent all year and should be all-stars when the time comes.  The Rockies have a few all stars of their own as Kris Bryant was the star of this week scoring 30 points.  Kinsler, Encarnacion, and Napoli all pitched in as well scoring 20 points or more.  Pitching still needs some work for the Rockies, but Arrieta got his groove back and scored a solid 24.5 points this week.  Rockies now have the longest current winning streak and look to continue their winning against the Pirates.

Chicago Cubs (4-3) – 237 Points

Top Hitter: Justin Bour – 30.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Jacob Degrom – 28.75 Points

Cincinatti Reds (6-1) – 368 Points

Top Hitter: Mark Trumbo – 34 Points

Top Pitcher: Marco Estrada – 42.75 Points

Another match up that had high expectations, but only 1 team showed up as the Reds move to 6-1 and fly past the 4-3 Chicago Cubs.  Reds put together good efforts from the pitching and hitting with Marco Estrada leading the way with 42 points.  Reds were able to get 10 players with over 20 points this week, which might just get them to the #1 spot in the power rankings for this week.  If Rizzo can catch his stride in the next couple weeks, there is no stopping the Reds.  Cubs have some work to do with their bullpen and their back of the end rotation if they want to get back on track.  Hitting for the Cubs look solid as they get consistent effort from most players in the starting lineup.

Atlanta Braves (5-2) – 240 Points

Top Hitter: Mitch Moreland – 23.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Dan Straily – 34.25 Points

Los Angeles Dodgers (3-4) – 246 Points

Top Hitter: Zach Cozart – 26 Points

Top Pitcher: Jesse Chavez – 39.75 Points

In the upset of the week, the Dodgers take down the 5-1 Atlanta Braves as the Dodgers did just enough with hitting and pitching to win by 6.  Cozart, Cargo, and Goldschmidt carried the way for the offense as Jesse Chavez took advantage of his double start week scoring 40 points.  The Braves stayed close in the game with their pitching of Straily, Fulmer, and Jimmy Nelson, but without the superb play of Vargas this week, Braves took their 2nd loss.

St. Louis Cardinals (5-2) – 333 Points

Top Hitter: Joey Votto – 29.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Eduardo Rodriguez – 48.75 Points

Pittsburgh Pirates (2-5) – 297 Points

Top Hitter: Corey Dickerson – 41.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Danny Duffy – 32.5 Points

By the look of the records, you would think this game would be a blowout, but the Pirates stuck in the game by almost scoring 300 points.  The Cardinals have been one of the hottest teams in the league though, so it wasn’t enough.  On offense, Cards were lead by Joey Votto and Normar Mazara, while the pitching was just as good lead by Eduardo “Double Start” Rodriguez and Carlos “Not Quite Pedro” Martinez.  It would be crazy not to recornize the week of Corey Dickerson scoring 41.5 points, but the rest of the team couldn’t pull it out for the Pirates as they fall to 2-5 and Cards move to 5-2.

New York Mets (2-5) – 293 Points

Top Hitter: JD Martinez – 42 Points

Top Pitcher: Jose Quintana – 28.25 Points

San Francisco Giants (4-3) – 201 Points

Top Hitter: Deon Travis – 33.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Jordan Zimmerman – 17.5 Points

This match up comes down to 1 thing and that is the Giants could not get any help from the pitching staff.  The Mets fully deserve to win this week with the play of JD Martinez, Ed Nunez, and Jose Quintana, but the Giants only scored 30 points from their pitching with 3 players in the negatives.  Hitting was solid with Deon Travis and Cameron Maybin leading the way for 63 points combined out of the 170, but it wasn’t enough as the Giants fall to 4-3 and the Mets are finding their winning ways and get their 2nd win.

Washington Nationals (3-4) – 288 Points

Top Hitter: Corey Seager – 24.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Steven Stratsburg – 51.5 Points

San Diego Padres (3-4) – 162 Points

Top Hitter: Jose Pereza – 20.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Brandon McCarthy – 26.5 Points

These two teams are both middle of the pack teams, but the Nationals were able to prevail in week 7 with their dominant pitching lead by Zach Godley, Martin Perez, and the MVP of the week Steven Stratsburg with 51.5 points!  Stratsburg outscored the whole pitching staff of the Padres as San Diego could never find a rhythm this week.  Both teams are now 3-4 and have crucial games ahead to see if they will be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline.

Baltimore Orioles (0-7) – 180 Points

Top Hitter: Jose Bautista – 35.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Robbie Ray – 31.5 Points

Oakland Athletics (3-4) – 195 Points

Top Hitter: Max Kepler – 21 Points

Top Pitcher: Clayton Kershaw – 30.75 Points

How many times this year am I going to say that Clayton Kershaw lead the A’s in scoring?!  Well add 1 more to the count as Kershaw goes for over 30 points to help lead the A’s past the Orioles.  Oakland got good efforts from Sonny Gray, Keuchel, and Max Kepler, which was good enough for Oakland to sneak a win by 15 points.  Baltimore was lead by Joey Bats, Bellinger, Yan Gomes, Robbie Ray, and Andrew Miller, who all scored over 20 points, but it fell just short as the Orioles stay winless.

Toronto Blue Jays (4-3) – 249 Points

Top Hitter: Krhris Davis – 23.5  Points

Top Pitcher: Jeremy Hellickson – 24.5 Points

Los Angeles Angels (0-7) – 150 Points

Top Hitter: Dansby Swanson – 29 Points

Top Pitcher: Tajaun Walker – 24.25 Points

Speaking of winless teams, the Angels fall to 0-7 and the Blue Jays take advantage of their bye week to get their 4th win.  Blue Jays were lead by Krush Davis, Hellickson, and Billy Hamilton, while the good effort of Walker and Swanson wasn’t even close enough to get the job done.

Kansas City Royals (3-4) 255 Points

Top Hitter: Adam Jones – 23.5 Points

Top Pitcher: CC Sabathia – 45.5 Points

Chicago White Sox (4-3) – 306 Points

Top Hitter: Avi Garcia – 35.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Mike Clevenger – 33.75 Points

With the AL Central up for grabs, the White Sox took full advantage and gave the Royals a beating with their big time hitting scoring 210 points.  Hitting was lead by Tim Anderson, Jose Abreu, and Avi Garcia all scoring over 30 points and all are actual Chicago White Sox players.  The Indians who are White Sox as well played solid as Kipnis scored 22.5 and Mike Clevenger went for 33.75 points.  Royals had good weeks from CC Sabathia and Adam Jones, but it wasn’t good enough as the Royals pick up their 4th loss and give the White Sox the AL Central lead by themselves.

Minnesota Twins (3-4) – 215 Points

Top Hitter: Mike Brantley - 20 Points

Top Pitcher: Derek Holland - 40.5 Points

Detroit Tigers (3-4) – 181 Points

Top Hitter: Jake Lamb - 41 Points

Top Pitcher: Ivan Nova -21.75 Points

We stay in the AL Central as we see the demise of the Tigers and the rising of the Twins, where the Twins pick up their 3rd win with 215 points.  The effort was lead by Derek Holland who scored 40 points, which was the same amount of the whole Tigers pitching staff.  Jake Lamb for the Tigers was great with 40 points, but with the weak pitching, the Tigers deserved to lose this week.  There is now a 3-way tie for 2nd place in the AL central with the Tigers, Twins, and Royals.

Boston Red Sox (2-5) – 165 Points

Top Hitter: Xander Boagerts – 19.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Danny Salazaar – 23 Points

Houston Astros (4-3) 235 Points

Top Hitter: Wellington Castillo – 33.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Yu Darvish – 46 Points

Despite the injuries, the Astros pull out the victory versus the Red Sox to move to 4-3 as the Sox move to 2-5.  Astros were lead by Yu Darvish and Wellington Castillo and look to keep fighting through injuries to hopefully catch up to the Mariners.

Week 5

Houston Astros (3-2) – 203 Points

Top Hitter: Freddie Freeman - 26 Points

Top Pitcher: Johnny Cueto - 41 Points

Seattle Mariners (3-2) – 262 Points

Top Hitter: Jean Segura - 29.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Jeff Samardzija - 31.25 Points

Was never announced, but this was the Game of the Week for week 5, but the point total didn’t live up to the hype.  Astros only scored 203 points with a lackluster performance from the pitching staff with Cueto scoring pretty much half the points for the staff.  The hiting wasn’t too much better, but had good weeks from Freddie Freeman and Robinson Cano.  The Mariners were able to muster more points with a consistent effort from the hitting and pitching to rack up 262 points. The hitting was lead by Jean Segura and Jayson Werth while the pitching had solid weeks from Jeff Samardjiza, Jose Urena, Ariel Miranda, and Josh Tomlin who combined to score 108 points.  Mariners move into a tie with the Astros after this win and it should be interesting how this division plays out.

Detroit Tigers (3-2) – 222 Points

Top Hitter: Michael Conforto - 29 Points

Top Pitcher: Scott Feldman - 33 Points

Toronto Blue Jays (3-2) – 230 Points

Top Hitter: Billy Hamilton - 54.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Matt Andriese - 28 Points

In one of the closest games of the week, the Blue Jays were able to defeat the Tigers by a mere 7 points with a little bit of controversy added to it.  With Matt Harvey slated to make his 2nd start of the week, the Mets suspended Harvey before making his start and it might of cost the Tigers of a shot of winning this week.  Blue Jays were without Bumgarner and Price and only scored 42 points from the pitching, but was able to get 187 points from hitting to give him the win.  Billy Hamilton scored 54.5 points in a dominant week to get the Blue Jays to 3-2.

San Francisco Giants (3-2) – 201 Points

Top Hitter: Aledyms Diaz - 25.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Edwin Diaz - 17.25 Points

Colorado Rockies (4-1) – 244 Points

Top Hitter: Manny Machado - 35 Points

Top Pitcher: Carlos Carrasco - 22.75 Points

The Rockies and Giants were tied going into week 5 and someone was going to take hold of the NL West and in a pretty lackluster game, the Rockies took control early and never let go.  The Rockies hitting had a great week with good performances from Kris Bryant, Manny Machado, and Gio Stanton, who all scored over 24 points on the week.  For the Giants, there wasn’t enough hitting or pitching, but without Cole Hamels and Brandon Crawford, it was going to be hard for the Giants to win this game.  Rockies now lead the NL West at 4-1, while the Giants fall to 3-2 and look to rebound against the winless Angels.

Cincinnati Reds (4-1) – 310 Points

Top Hitter: Yander Alonzo - 40 Points

Top Pitcher: Gerrit Cole - 41.25 Points

New York Mets (0-5) – 296 Points

Top Hitter: Javy Baez - 38.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Alex Cobb - 35.75 Points

When looking at the records, you would think the Reds would run away with this match up, but the Mets are a lot better than their record and gave the Reds a run from their money.  Mets had good weeks from Javy Baez who came on strong scoring 38.5 points and Alex Cobb, who had his best week scoring 35.75 points.  It wasn’t enough as the Reds were able to score 140 from hitting and 169 from pitching, which was good enough for 2nd highest score in week 5.  Yander Alonzo went off this week hitting 5 home runs and scoring 40 fantasy points this week.  Kole Callhoun and Kevin Pillar added 20 points each as well.  Pitching was lead by Gerrit Cole, Jon Lester, and Marco Estrada who comined to score 111 points this week (Avg. 37 Points Per Player).  The Reds pulled it off on Sunday with a strong game from Lester, which now moves him to 4-1 and drops the Mets to 0-5.

Chicago Cubs (3-2) – 221 Points

Top Hitter: Mark Reynolds - 25 Points

Top Pitcher: Lance McCullers - 40.5 Points

Miami Marlins (3-2) – 384 Points

Top Hitter: Matt Carpenter - 39 Points

Top Pitcher: Rick Porcello - 39.75 Points

Marlins had a very slow start, but have picked it up in a big way and was able to be the high scorer in week 5 and is now 2nd in points for the whole year.  Hitting scored over 200 points this week and pitching was able to reach 183 points.  Matt Carpenter and Porcello lead the way for the Marlins both scoring 39 points.  Max Scherzer, Jay Bruce, and Dustin Pedroia all were major contributors  all scoring over 30 points on the week.  The Cubs never stood a chance this week as the pitching did not live up to the projections as they only scored 82 points with 6 players scoring less than 8 points.  The Cubs fall from 1st to 3rd in the NL Central and the Marlins will stay put in 2nd place and move to 3-2 on the year.

Kansas City Royals (2-3) - 180 Points

Top Hitter: Ryan Zimmerman - 30.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Nate Karns - 30.25 Points

New York Yankees (5-0) - 251 Points

Top Hitter: Jose Altuve - 25 Points

Top Pitcher: Justin Verlander - 23.75 Points

The Yankees keep their winning streak alive as they now go to 5-0 on the year and remain the best team in baseball.  Lead by the efforts of star players Jose Altuve and Justin Verlander both scoring around the 25 point mark.  6 other pitchers were able to score over 15 points on the week to help the Yankees pull off this win.  Another reason for this win was the Royals getting -30 from Brett Anderson, which will really set you back.  Zimmerman and Nate Karns both put up 30 points each, but it wasnt enough as the Royals fall to 2-3 and The Yankees will look to stay undefeated versus the Nationals.

Los Angeles Angels (0-5) – 111 Points

Top Hitter: Miguel Sano - 17 Points

Top Pitcher: Tyler Glasnow - 29.25 Points

Oakland Athletics (2-3) – 206 Points

Top Hitter: Aaron Altherr - 36 Points

Top Pitcher: Clayton Kershaw - 35.5 Points

In probably the most anticipated division matchup of the week, the Angels and the Athletics faced off and it did not disappoint combining for a whopping 317 points.  Angels had good weeks from Tyler Glasnow and Michael Wacha, but it just wasn’t enough.  The A’s had a good pitching week as Kershaw dominated with 35.5 points to give the A’s their 2nd win of the year.

Los Angeles Dodgers (1-4) – 270 Points

Top Hitter: Paul Golschmidt - 27 Points

Top Pitcher: Trevor Cahill - 29.25 Points

San Diego Padres (3-2) – 291 Points

Top Hitter: Asdrubal Cabrera - 25.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Tyler Chatwood - 28.75 Points

Another close game for most of the week, but the Padres were able to pull away by the weekend to grab their 3rd win of the year and surprise the league with their high point totals.  Padres scored well with hitting with 3 players over 20, which included Travis Shaw, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Jose Pereza.  The pitching were consistent as well with the high scorer being Tyler Chatwood scoring 28.75 points.  Dodgers couldn’t match these efforts, but LA still had a great week of pitching with Chris Archer, Mike Fiers, Robert Gsellman, and Trevor Cahill all scoring over 20 points.  Dodgers will still fall to 1-4 as the Padres remain 1 game out of the NL West with a 3-2 record.

St. Louis Cardinals (4-1) – 289 Points

Top Hitter: Joey Votto - 38 Points

Top Pitcher: Chris Sale - 54.75 Points

Washington Nationals (2-3) – 238 Points

Top Hitter: Aaron Judge - 31 Points

Top Pitcher: Luis Severino - 23 Points

The St. Louis Cardinals could be the most dangerous team in the league right now as they are #2 overall, but #1 in points for the year so far consistently scoring in the 280 range.  Nationals put up with a fight with the hottest hitter in the league in Aaron Judge scoring 31 points and the hot hitter Anthony Rendon scoring 27.5 points, but it wasn’t enough.  The Cardinals had a great week from Joey Votto with 7 RBIs and 11 walks on the week to get him 38 points.  The pitching was lead by a double start from Chris Sale who notched 54.75 points and that was enough to get the Cards the win to move them to 4-1 on the year and 1st place in the NL Central.

Chicago White Sox (3-2) – 211 Points

Top Hitter: Adam Duvall - 31 Points

Top Pitcher: Wade LeBlanc - 31.25 Points

Boston Red Sox (2-3) – 284 Points

Top Hitter: Xander Bogaerts - 31 Points

Top Pitcher: Vince Velasquez - 27 Points

Battle of the Sox is always a fun match up to look forward to as it went down to the wire up until Sunday.  The difference was Sunday and Tanner Roark did not disappoint by helping the Red Sox pull away to an easy victory.  The hitting was also very key to the Red Sox victory as Boagerts pulled in 31 and Eugenio Suarez put in 26.5 points.  The other Sox tried their best to stay in the game, but it did not happen as pitching failed to reach 100 and the hitting only scored points from 3 players pretty much.  Abreu, Mauer, and Duvall scored 80 points combined.  The White Sox will still fall to 3-2 and Red Sox will go up 2-3.

Pittsburgh Pirates (1-4) - 193 Points

Top Hitter: Brett Garnder - 35.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Ken Giles - 22.25 Points

Atlanta Braves (4-1) - 242 Points

Top Hitter: Mitch Moreland - 20.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Jason Vargas - 36.25 Points

In a not so surprsing matchup, the Braves take down the Pirates to move to 4-1 on the year as the Pirates fall to 1-4.  Braves were lead by Michael Fulmer and Jason Vargas, who both scored over 25 points this week.  Hitting for Braves wasn't great, but it got the job done with Mitch Moreland leading the way with 20.5 points.  Pirates did not have much of a fight, but Marcell Ozuna and Brett Garnder both had great weeks scoring over 32 points each.  Pirates will look to rebound versus the White Sox as the Braves will look to stay hot against the Red Sox.

Minnesota Twins (2-3) – 258 Points

Top Hitter: Kolten Wong - 19.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Derek Holland - 28.25 Points

Baltimore Orioles (0-5) – 225 Points

Top Hitter: Cody Bellinger - 41.5 Points

Top Pitcher: Dylan Bundy - 38.75 Points

Twins beat the Orioles

Week 3

 San Diego Padres (2-1) – 303 Points

Colorado Rockies (2-1) – 397 Points

Padres Top Performers:

Hitting – Travis Shaw – 32 Points

Pitching – Mike Leake – 44.25 Points

Rockies Top Performers:

Hitting – Bryce Harper – 45.5 Points

Pitching – Lance Lynn – 54 Points

Padres had one of the highest scores out of all the teams in week 3, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Rockies in this Game of the Week match up.  The Rockies went on a tear by scoring a season-high, 397 points.  The pitching and hitting were spectacular with the surprise of Lance Lynn stepping up to give Sam 54 points.  Trevor Bauer, Ubaldo Jiminez, and Wade Davis were able to contribute as well by each scoring over 25 points.  For the Rockies hitting, it was lead by Bryce Harper and Gio Stanton who slashed 79 points combined for the week, which lead to the Rockies offense scoring 195 points.  The Padres offense was decent, but their pitching was above average with good weeks from Mike Leake, Chase Anderson, and Brandon McCarthy.  The offense was lead by AJ Pollock and Travis Shaw, but the rest of the offense couldn’t pull their weight, which is the reason why the Padres picked up their first loss.

Chicago Cubs (3-0) – 255 Points

Washington Nationals (1-2) – 243 Points

Chicago Cubs Top Performers:

Hitting – Mookie Betts – 35.5 Points

Pitching – Lance McCullers – 28 Points

Washington Nationals Top Performers:

Hitting – Stephen Souza – 32 Points

Pitching – Mike Foltynewicz – 32 Points

This was a very close match up that came down to Sunday afternoon to find a winner and ended with the Cubs pulling ahead with a big hit from Nelson Cruz.  Nelson Cruz and Mookie Betts were the driving forces of the Cubs staying undefeated as the pitching for the Cubs didn’t pull their weight.  Nationals pitching didn’t do much better, but still had a good effort from the offense to keep them in it.  Starlin Castro, Aaron Judge and Stephen Souza were the only hitters to have good weeks as the other players didn’t do enough.

St. Louis Cardinals (2-1) – 285 Points

New York Mets (0-3) – 209 Points

St. Louis Cardinals Top Performers:

Hitting – Joey Votto – 33.5 Points

Pitching – Chris Sale – 30.75 Points

New York Mets Top Performers:

Hitting – Andrew McCutchen – 17 Points

Pitching – Craig Kimbrel – 30 Points

The Cardinals stay hot in week 3 by scoring 285 and continue to be one of the top scoring teams in the league in the first part of the year.  Cards had consistent efforts from the pitching and hitting with good weeks from Joey Votto, Jeff Bandy, Eduardo Rodriguez, Joe Ross, and Chris Sale.  The bullpen didn’t look great from the Cards, but the rest of the team played well enough to lead St. Louis to their 2nd victory.  The Mets fall to a surprising 0-3 with weak efforts from their hitting department.  Lucroy, Hosmer, Seager, Bauez, Polanco, and Morales all under performing, which is killing the Mets.  Pitching was good for the Mets with Tanaka, Manaea, and Kimbrel combining for 79 points in week 3.  Mets will look to get their offense going in week 4, while the Cardinals should change nothing, which will result in them winning more games.

Detroit Tigers (3-0) – 281 Points

Boston Red Sox (1-2) - 257 Points

Detroit Tigers Top Performers:

Hitting – Mitch Haniger – 29.5 Points

Pitching – Ivan Nova – 47.5 Points

Boston Red Sox Top Performers:

Hitting – Ryon Healy – 28.5 Points

Pitching – Danny Salazar – 24 Points

In a pretty tight game between 2 competitive AL teams, the Detroit Tigers came out victorious with their consistent efforts of 140 points from pitching and 141 points from hitting.  Red Sox were showed good numbers this week as well, but it just wasn’t enough against this tough Detroit team.  Tigers relied on Mitch Haniger once again for hitting and he did not fail with 30 points total.  For pitching Ivan Nova carried the weight with Gio Gonzalez and Scott Feldman scoring over 20 as well.  Red Sox didn’t have any huge star points, which could be the reason they pull out victorious in week 3.

Minnesota Twins (1-2) – 254 Points

New York Yankees (3-0) – 288 Points

Minnesota Twins Top Performers:

Hitting – Kolten Wong – 29.5 Points

Pitching – Derek Holland – 23.5 Points

New York Yankees Top Performers:

Hitting – David Peralta – 27 Points

Pitching – Heun Seung-OH – 35.5 Points

This game did come down to Sunday and if it wasn’t for the complete game of Marcus Stroman, this game could have been a lot closer.  Twins got good weeks from Brantley and Kolten Wong, but the pitching didn’t come through.  The opposite for the Yankees as pitching went from 177 points and over 25 points for Chen, Montgomery, Stroman, Seung-OH, and Jhoulys Chancin.  Daivd Peralta and Altuve were around 25 points for offense, but that was it for hitting production.  Either way, the Yankees moved to 3-0 as the Twins fall to 1-2 in the AL Cental.

Pittsburgh Pirates (0-3) – 223 Points

Miami Marlins (1-2) – 257 Points

Pittsburgh Pirates Top Performers:

Hitting – Trevor Story – 24.5 Points

Pitching – Ken Giles – 29.75 Points

Miami Marlins Top Performers:

Hitting – Eric Thames – 32.5 Points

Pitching – Max Scherzer – 61 Points

Something had to give in this week 3 match up as both teams came into the game with 0 wins, but only the Marlins came out with their first win with big games from Max Scherzer, Charlie Blackmon, and Eric Thames.  This might be the turning point for the Marlins to get things rolling.  The Pirates are rolling the wrong way with their 3rd straight loss and need more effort for their hitting.  A lot of under performers hurting the Pirates and they will look for their first in week 4.

Los Angeles Dodgers (1-2) – 215 Points

San Francisco Giants (2-1) – 223 Points

Los Angeles Dodgers Top Performers:

Hitting – Paul Goldschmidt – 30 Points

Pitching – Trevor Cahill – 29.5 Points

San Francisco Giants Top Performers:

Hitting – Evan Longoria – 21.5 Points

Pitching – Bronson Arroyo – 42.5 Points

Giants escaped with an 8 point win and Bronson Arroyo is the reason for the Giants win.  Who would have thought that would be a sentence in week 3 of 2017.  Bronson went for 42 points and lead the Giants in scoring and helped the pitching staff to 128 total points.  Cole Hamels and Evan Longoria both followed suit to Arroyo to get the Giants to 2-1.  Dodgers need better effort from their pitching to get off their losing streak.

Cincinnati Reds (2-1) – 248 Points

Atlanta Braves (2-1) – 285 Points

Cincinnati Reds Top Performers:

Hitting – Anthony Rizzo – 38.5 Points

Pitching – Andrew Triggs – 25.75 Points

Atlanta Braves Top Performers:

Hitting – Eddie Rosario – 20 Points

Pitching – Michael Fulmer – 36 Points

In a so-called upset, the Braves take down the undefeated Reds in pretty easy fashion.  Pitching was the key in this game as Reds only scored 88 to the Braves 160.  Fulmer, Vargas, and Straily all scored over 27 points for the week.  Even with Rizzo scoring 40 points, it wasn’t enough for the Reds as the Braves pitching dominance moves them to 2-1.

Kansas City Royals (1-2) – 219 Points

Toronto Blue Jays (2-1) – 285 Points

Kansas City Royals Top Performers:

Hitting – Ryan Zimmerman – 35.5 Points

Pitching – Jamie Garcia – 30.5 Points

Toronto Blue Jays Top Performers:

Hitting – Carlos Santana – 21 Points

Pitching – Matt Andriese – 31.75 Points

The big story to hit Toronto was no more Mad Bum as he is out for at least 2 months after a dirt bike accident.  It didn’t phase the Jays this week as the pitching scored 148 points, not including Bumgarner.  It will be questioned if the pitching can keep up these efforts moving forward, but for week 3 it was enough to get the win.  For the Royals, pitching and hitting didn’t wow anybody and will take this loss with only 218 points.

Seattle Mariners (2-1) – 269 Points

Oakland Athletics (1-2) – 191 Points

Seattle Mariners Top Performers:

Hitting – Mike Trout – 33 Points

Pitching – Corey Kluber – 42.75 Points

Oakland Athletics Top Performers:

Hitting – Kevin Kiermaier – 23.5 Points

Pitching – Clayton Kershaw - 29.5 Points

Clayton Kershaw did not score over 100 points, which means the Athletics did not win in week 3.  Mike Trout and Corey Kluber carried the Mariners to victory….shocker!

Chicago White Sox (2-1) – 182 Points

Baltimore Orioles (0-3) – 120 Points

Chicago White Sox Top Performers:

Hitting – Yosmany Tomas – 27.5 Points

Pitching – Hector Santiago – 21.5 Points

Baltimore Orioles Top Performers:

Hitting - Neil Walker - 14.5 Points

Pitching - Dylan Bundy - 25.25 Points

The Padres and Rockies were able to out score the combined total of both of these teams by themselves. White Sox were the more consistent team though scoring 80 more points of hitting than the Orioles.

Houston Astros (2-1) – 220 Points

Los Angeles Angels (0-3) – 138 Points

Houston Astros Top Performers:

Hitting – Freddie Freeman – 44.5 Points

Pitching – Yu Darvish – 36 Points

Los Angeles Angels Top Performers:

Hitting – Joey Gallo – 29 Points

Pitching – Michael Wacha – 24.25 Points

Astros beat the Angels in a tough….division battle….

Week 2

Game of the Week

Cincinnati Reds (2-0) – 290 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Anthony Rizzo – (23 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Jon Lester (38.5 Points)

Colorado Rockies (1-1) – 236 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Bryce Harper (35.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Carlos Carrasco (33 Points)

In a semi-final rematch, the Reds had their eyes set on vengeance and vengeance they did by beating the Rockies by a good 54 points!  Reds jumped on the back of their pitching and carried it to victory with 192 points, while Rockies could only gather 84 points of pitching!  Rockies hitting held their own, but it wasn’t enough to make this game close as the Rockies fall to 1-1, while the Reds move to 2-0 to be tied for the NL Central division lead.

Toronto Blue Jays (1-1) – 216 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Khris Davis (22.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance –Francisco Rodriguez (27.5 Points)

New York Yankees (2-0) – 233 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Yoenis Cespedes (38.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Hansel Robles (26 Points)

In a very close division battle, the Yankees were able to fight off the Blue Jays on Sunday as the Blue Jays had Wainwright and Iwakuma failing to pitch quality games to give them the win.  This was a 1st round match up last year in the playoffs and Yankees were able to win that game as well.  Blue Jays and Yankees pitching were both mediacore this week, but the Yankees 160 points of hitting put them over the top with Cespedes, Altuve, and Ramirez all scoring over 33 points.  Blue Jays were lead by Krush Davis and Yasiel Puig, but it was not enough for the victory as they fall to 1-1 and Yankees move to 2-0.

Miami Marlins (0-2) – 258 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Eric Thames (41.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Drew Pomeranz (34 Points)

Atlanta Braves (1-1) – 292 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Mitch Moreland (30 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance –Jimmy Nelson (27.75 Points)

The Miami Marlins are 0-2!! What?!!?  The #2 power ranked team has fallen again and this time it was to the Atlanta Braves!  The Braves were able to bring a consistent effort of both pitching and hitting to give them the win.  The Marlins pitching staff failed them this week as they only scored 80 points to the Braves 135 points.  Braves also had 5 hitters go over 20 points this week (Moreland, Gordon, Eaton, Upton, Moustakas), which was crucial to a victory this week.  Max Scherzer, Greinke, Porcello all under performed, so this now moves the Marlins to 0-2 for the first time in franchise history.

Chicago White Sox (1-1) – 217 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Chase Headley (27 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Wily Peralta (39 Points)
Seattle Mariners (1-1) – 144 Points
Top Hitter Performance – DJ LeMahieu (23.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Jeff Samardjiza (19.25 Points)

Even with the Marlins losing this week, I think this might be the upset of the week as the White Sox take down the Mariners in week 2.  The defending champions fell apart with only 33.25 points, while on the other side Wily Peralta got 39 points by himself!!  The game wasn’t close at all as the Mariners scored a very low 144 points.  The White Sox didn’t go crazy with points, but did get good efforts from Hector Santiago, Wily Peralta, Chase Headley, and Avi Garcia.  White Sox still have some holes, but were able to pull out a win, without Jose Abreu scoring big points.  White Sox move to 1-1 and Mariners will be 1-1 as well.

Kansas City Royals (1-1) – 234 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Ceasar Hernandez (28 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – CC Sabathia (29.5 Points)

Houston Astros (1-1) – 264 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Scooter Gennett (25.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance –Yu Darvish (30.5 Points)

In a pretty tight game, the Astros were able to pull out the victory due to their very consistent hitting that outscored the Royals by 24 points with 166.  The efforts of Lindor, Cain, Piscotty, Yellich, and Gennett were enough to get the Astros the first win of the year as the pitching was decent at best.  5 players on the Astros pitching staff finished with .25 points or worse. for the The Royals pitching staff didn’t do any better with only 92 points total, but did find a consistent effort from the offense, but it wasn’t enough as they fall to 1-1 on the year.

Pittsburgh Pirates (0-2) – 292 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Marcel Ozuna (39 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Michael Pinaeda (62.75 Points)

San Diego Padres (2-0) – 351 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Asdrubal Cabrera (27.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Antonio Senzatela (48 Points)

San Diego……Super Padressss!  Padres are now 2-0 and seem to be the Cinderella of the league so far beating the Marlins and now the Pirates.  The pitching staff was phenomenal this week as they scored 244 points, which I believe is highest in the league.  Padres had 4 pitchers over 30 points and 3 pitchers over 40 points, which is pretty damn good!  The hitting did average this week, so for them to keep this up, Padres will need more consistent bats.  The Pirates had a good week of 292, but it wasn’t enough as the pitching  couldn’t keep up with the Padres.  Still had great efforts from Ozuna and Pinaeda, but it wasn’t enough as they fall to 0-2 on the year.  Padres move to 2-0 and are the top team in the league as of now!

New York Mets (0-2) – 205 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Andrew McCutchen (28.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Mash Tanaka (21.75 Points)

Washington Nationals (1-1) – 280 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Travis D’Arnaud (30.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Jameson Tallion (39.5 Points)

A division game between two 0-1 was not that exciting as the Nationals ran away with it by scoring more total hitting and pitching points.  Pitching and hitting were pretty both even, which shows consistency and good vibes moving forward for the Nats as they go to 1-1.  Mets need to work on the pitching staff as it has struggled through the first couple weeks as they move to 0-2 on the year.

St. Louis Cardinals (1-1) -- 373 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Brandon Phillips (26.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance –James Paxton (66.5 Points)

Los Angeles Dodgers (1-1) – 189 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Zach Cozart (21 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Ian Kennedy (37.5 Points)

Sorry Dodgers, but this summary is pretty much all about the Cardinals as you had a very below average week.  Cardinals scored high score this week as they were able to get consistent scoring from the hitters and some huge points from some pitching.  Hitting across the board looked solid, but for pitching Cards had 2 pitchers over 50 points with James Paxton and Chris Sale.  The bullpen pitched well and it was the perfect formula to get the high score for week 2 and to get the first win of the year.

Detroit Tigers (2-0) – 238 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Mitch Haniger (28.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Gio Gonzalez (42 Points)

Oakland Athletics (1-1) – 170 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Max Kepler (26 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Clayton Kershaw (34 Points)

Another pretty boring game, but the Tigers moving to 2-0 is a solid story as they will keep up the winning vibes in Detroit.  Tigers relied on their good hitting as they are relying on 2nd round pick Mitch Haniger on their offensive load.  A’s need better effort from the offense as the pitching staff lead by Kershaw will keep scoring over 100 points each week.

Chicago Cubs (2-0) – 288 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Wil Myers (38 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Jacob DeGrom (38 Points)

San Francisco Giants (0-2) – 137 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Brandon Crawford (15.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Cole Hamels (21.25 Points)

This game ended up being not so good as the Giants struggled all around with only 62 hitting and 74 pitching.  There was way too many single digit players for the Giants to even think about a victory.  San Fran will look to bounce back in week 3.  Cubbies played well on both sides of the ball with the big efforts coming from Myers and Degrom, both with 38 points.  The hitting and pitching both look good in week, which is a good look moving forward as they don’t have to rely on just 1 side of the ball to win games.  Chicago Cubs are built for the long haul and look to keep building upon their strong start.

Baltimore Orioles (0-2) – 134 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Ryan Schimpf (19.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Dylan Bundy (31.75 Points)

Boston Red Sox (1-1) – 273 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Ender Inciarte (34.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Tanner Roark (33.5 Points)

Division battle, but not a lot of fight shown by the Orioles as the Red sox run over them with a good hitting week lead by Inciarte and Schoop.  Red Sox move to 1-1 and Orioles fall to 0-2.

Minnesota Twins (1-1) – 322 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Miguel Cabrera (26.5 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Matt Moore (29.5 Points)

Los Angeles Angels (0-2) – 84 Points
Top Hitter Performance – Miguel Sano (18 Points)
Top Pitcher Performance – Tajaun Walker (20.75 Points)

Good job Twins!  Pitching was great, Hitting was pretty good too!
Angels….keep trusting the process!

Week 1

Game of the Week

Toronto Blue Jays (1-0) vs. Houston Astros (0-1)

In the best game of the week, it did not disappoint as only a couple points separated the winner and loser of this match up.  The big start by the Blue Jays was key and they were able to hold onto the victory.  The offense of the Blue Jays scored 171 compared to the 138 of the Astros, which was crucial.  Blue Jays will head off to New York next week to face the Yankees as the Astros will hope to bounce back against the scrappy Kansas City Royals.

Blue Jays Top Performers:

Hitter – Yasiel Puig – 7 Hits, 3 Home Runs, 5 RBIs (31 Points)

Pitcher – Madison Bumgarner – 15 IP, 5 Earned Runs, 16 Strikeouts (38 Points)

Astros Top Peformers

Hitter – Francisco Lindor – 7 Hits, 3 Home Runs, 7 RBIs (29.5 Points)

Pitcher – Johnny Cueto – 12 IP, 6 Earned Runs, 12 Strikouts (38 Points)

Chicago White Sox (0-1) vs. Detroit Tigers (1-0)

This game was close for a bit at the beginning, but as the weekend hit, the Tigers were able to pull away and get a share of the high score for the week.  Tigers were able to get good efforts from both the hitting and pitching to pull of this win.  White Sox offense was good as well, but didn’t get enough from the pitching to make the game close.

White Sox Top Performers:

Hitting – Salvador Perez – 7 Hits, 4 Home Runs, 4 RBIs (26 Points)

Pitching – Wily Peralta – 5 IP, 0 Earned Runs, 5 Strikeouts, 1 Win (21.75 Points)

Tigers Top Performers:

Hitting – Mitch Haniger – 6 Hits, 8 Runs, 3 Home Runs, 4 RBIs (29.5 Points)

Pitching – Scott Feldman – 10.2 IP, 3 Earned Runs, 12 Strikeouts, 1 Win (28 Points)

St. Louis Cardinals (0-1) vs. Chicago Cubs (1-0)

I think we can count this as a rivaly game as the Cubs vs. Cardinals is always a tough match up, whether it is fantasy or MLB.  This game came down to the last day as Cards did hold a lead, but the efforts of McCullers and Tehran were able to shut down Carlos Martinez and the Cardinals.  The ex-factor was for sure Mark Reynolds stepping up with a huge 31.

Cardinals Top Performers:

Hitting – Nomar Mazara – 10 Hits, 6 Runs, 2 Home Runs, 9 RBIs (32.5 Points)

Pitching – Chris Sale – 7 IP, 0 Earned Runs, 7 Strikeouts, 1 Quality Start (24.25 Points)

Cubs Top Performers

Hitting – Mark Reynolds – 9 Hits, 6 Runs, 2 Home Runs, 5 RBIs (31 Points)

Pitching – Lance McCullers – 13 IP, 0 Earned Runs, 10 Ks, 2 QS, 1 Win (44.75 Points)

Miami Marlins (0-1) vs. San Diego Padres (1-0)

I think this was easily the biggest upset of the week as many people thought the Marlins were going 20-0 this year.  Padres were able to stop that from happening and behind the efforts of some big bats, they will move to 1-0 on the year.  Marlins will be ready to bounce back next week and will try to go for 19-1 for the 2017 season now.

Marlins Top Performers

Hitting – Jay Bruce – 5 Hits, 5 Runs, 2 Home Runs, 3 RBIs (23 Points)

Pitching – Zach Grienke – 11.2 IP, 3 Earned Runs, 10 Ks, 1 Win, 1 QS (37.5 Points)

Padres Top Performers:

Hitting – Chris Owings – 9 Hits, 4 Runs, 1 Home Run, 5 RBIs (25 Points)

Pitching – Jake Odorizzi – 12 IP, 6 Earned Runs, 8 Ks, 1 QS, 1 Win (27 Points)

San Francisco Giants (1-0) vs. Washington Nationals (0-1)

By the time this game got to the weekend, the Giants took control of this game and cruised to a 40 point victory.  Giants pitching wasn’t great, but the hitting was strong enough to get the job done in week 1.  For the Nats, hitting and pitching were both weak and some major coaching needs to be done to fix this problem.

Giants Top Performers:

Hitting – Aledmys Diaz – 8 Hits, 5 Runs, 2 Home Runs, 4 RBIs (26.5 Points)

Pitching – Jordan Zimmerman – 6 IP, 1 Earned Run, 3 Ks, 1 QS, 1 Win (22.25 Points)

Nationals Top Performers:

Hitting – Steven Souza – 10 Hits, 3 Runs, 1 Home Run, 6 RBIs (29 Points)

Pitching – Steven Stratsburg – 14 IP, 5 Earned Runs, 11 Ks, 2 QS, 1 Win (42.25 Points)

Cincinnati Reds (1-0) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (0-1)

Before the year started, Rockies owner made a prediction of the Pirates finishing ahead of the Reds for the 2017 year.  It can still happen, but Reds didn’t like this comment and with this week 1 match up the Reds proved they are a solid team that shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Reds Top Performers:

Hitting – Kole Callhoun – 9 Hits, 5 Runs, 1 Home Run, 4 RBIs (22.5 Points)

Pitching -  Edison Volquez – 11 IP 4 Earned Runs, 13 Ks (20.75 Points)

Pirates Top Performers:

Addison Russell – 8 Hits, 5 Runs, 4 RBIs (20.5 Points)

Danny Duffy – 13 IP, 3 Earned Runs, 11 Ks, 2 QS, 1 Win (38.25 Points)

Atlanta Braves (0-1) vs. Colorado Rockies (1-0)

The Rockies were in control of this match up right from the get go and from good efforts from the offense and a decent effort from pitching, the Rockies will retain the #1 spot in the power rankings and moves to 1-0 on the year.

Braves Top Performers

Hitting – JT Realmuto – 11 Hits, 6 Runs, 2 Home Runs, 6 RBIs (32.5 Points

Pitching – Jason Vargas 6 IP 1 Earned Run, 6 Ks, 1 QS, 1 Win (23.5 Points

Rockies Top Performers:

Hitting –Brandon Belt– 7 Hits, 6 Runs, 3 Home Runs, 7 RBIs (35 Points)

Pitching – Jake Arrieta -13 IP 3 Earned Runs, 16 Ks, 2 QS, 2 Wins (54 Points)

Boston Red Sox (0-1) vs. Oakland Athletics (1-0)

This was another upset in my books as Athletics controlled this game and took an easy win home back to Oakland.  Money Ball year 2 seems to be working and the solid pitching of the A’s was able to get the job done for the W.

Red Sox Top Performers:

Hitting – Geo Parra – 11 Hits, 2 Runs, 1 Home Run, 6 RBIs (21 Points)

Pitching Noah Syndergaard – 13 IP, 1 Earned Runs, 16 Ks, 2 QS, 1 Win (51 Points)

Athletics Top Performers:

Hitting - Kevin Kiermaier – 8 Hits, 4 Runs (19 Points)

Pitching – Dallas Keuchel – 14 IP, 1 Earned Run, 8 Ks, 2 QS, 1 Win (50 Points)

New York Mets (0-1) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (1-0)

This a very interesting match up as probably 2nd in line for game of the week as we had 2 heavy hitters going against each other.  I expected Mets to win since they did have 11 starters for the week, but it wasn’t enough as the Dodgers were great with the bats and pitching to get the job done.

Mets Top Performers:

Hitting -  Ed Nunez – 9 Hits (21 Points)

Pitching – Kendall Graveman – 13 IP, 3 Earned Runs, 12 Ks, 2 QS, 1 Win (52 Points)

Dodgers Top Performers:

Hitting - Paul Goldschmidt – 9 Hits, 8 Runs, 2 Home Runs, 5 RBIs (35 Points)

Pitching – Chris Archer – 14.2 IP, 4 Earned Runs, 13 Ks, 2 QS, 1 Win (44.75 Points)

Baltimore Orioles (0-1) vs. Seattle Mariners (1-0)

No big headlines here.  Defending champion takes down the Orioles with ease as the hitting was huge.

Orioles Top Performers:

Hitting - Yunel Escobar – 12 Hits, 8 Runs, 1 Home Run, 4 RBIs (28 Points)

Pitching – Dylan Bundy – 7 IP, 1 Earned Run, 8 Ks, 1 QS, 1 Win (31 Points)

Mariners Top Performers:

Hitting – Mike Trout – 7 Hits, 3 Runs,2 Home Runs, 7 RBIs (26.5 Points)

Pitching – Kyle Hendricks – 6 IP, 4 Earned Runs, 6 Ks, 1 Win (19.5 Points)

Los Angeles Angels (0-1) vs. New York Yankees (1-0)

In another game with not a lot of excitement, the Yankees take down the Angels in a consistent effort of offense and defense.

Angels Top Performers:

Hitting - Miguel Sano – 7 Hits, 7 Runs, 2 Home Runs, 8 RBIs (31.5 Points)

Pitching – Michael Wacha – 6 IP, 1 Earned Run, 7 Ks, 1 QS, 1 Win (26.5 Points)

Yankees Top Performers:

Hitting – Yangervis Solarte – 10 Hits, 3 Runs, 2 Home Runs, 8 RBIs (29.5 Points)

Pitching – Marcus Stroman – 6.1 IP, 1 Earned Run, 2 Ks, 1 QS, 1 Win (22.75 Points)

Kansas City Royals (1-0) vs. Minnesota Twins (0-1)

Last, but not least, the AL central battle between the Twins and Royals, where it ended in a pretty easy win for the Royals as the win by 70 points.  Royals hitting was great this week as they had 4 guys with over 20 points scoring for the week in hitting.

Royals Top Performers:

Hitting – Nolan Arenado – 8 Hits, 6 Runs, 2 Home Runs, 4 RBIs (26.5 Points)

Pitching – CC Sabathia – 11 IP, 2 Earned Runs 5 Ks, 1 QS, 1 Win (28.75 Points)

Twins Top Performers:

Hitting – Jason Castro – 4 Hits, 5 Runs, 1 Home Run, 5 RBIs (24.5 Points)

Pitching – Ervin Santana – 13 IP, 1 Earned Run, 7 Ks, 2 QS, 2 Wins (53.25 Points)
